“This initial report lays out what disabled people have been saying time and time again, that the PIP process can frequently be complex and cruel. Too often disabled people are stigmatised and shamed for accessing basic support they are entitled to.
PIP should be there for all disabled people, in and out of work, irrespective of condition.
This review is a key opportunity for disabled people to be involved in reform. The co-production in this review is both positive and necessary. Disabled people need to be heard and at the heart of reform.
We have welcomed the sector engagement the review has had so far and we hope this will continue when creating recommendations.
This report could be a catalyst for meaningful and long awaited change from Government. While the report is an important first step, we cannot evaluate it’s success and impact until we have the recommendations in the full report in Autumn.
DBC will continue to advocate for a fairer system for disabled people.”
