Anastasia Berry, Policy Co-Chair of the Disability Benefits Consortium and Policy Manager at the MS Society, says: “We’re appalled that the Prime Minister is not replacing the Minister for Disabled People. Despite making up almost a quarter of the population, disabled people are yet again being treated like they don’t exist.

“Living with a condition like MS can be debilitating, exhausting and unpredictable. It’s also expensive. However, the government are currently pushing ahead with devastating changes to disability benefits which will punish those on the lowest incomes. And the broken PIP assessment process is depriving many of support to manage the extra costs of their condition. Meanwhile, lengthy waiting lists mean accessing healthcare can feel like a never-ending battle. Appointing a new Minister for Disabled People won’t solve these problems overnight, but it will give disabled people the representation in government they deserve.”
