Sue Christoforou, Campaigns Co-Chair of the Disability Benefits Consortium and Policy Manager at Parkinson’s UK, says:
“Today’s budget did not reflect the reality of those reliant on disability benefits: there was no review of the adequacy of benefit rates nor any recognition of the need for extra support in the midst of the ongoing cost of living crisis, bar a mere six month extension to the Household Support Fund. This is despite the Government acknowledging that gas prices are forecast to remain abnormally high until at least 2028-29. The Chancellor appears to have ignored all the evidence produced on benefit inadequacy and increased destitution. He has missed this key opportunity to lift disabled people out of life-limiting poverty.”
